THIS FOURTH GRADE CLASSROOM BLOG WAS CREATED TO INFORM STUDENTS AND PARENTS OF CLASS ACTIVITIES AND TO SHOWCASE CLASS CREATIVITY THROUGH STORIES AND PROJECTS.
The first annual Fun Run was a huge success with our entire school walking or running 799 miles in one morning! I would like to thank Desert Coastal Transport, Inc. for being a sponsor for $250.00. I appreciate them wanting to help our class and our school.
Our teachers and staff parrticipated in Race for the Cure in honor of Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Millard. They are wearing their pink Survivor T-shirts in the picture.
Mr. Todd, from Southwestern Dairy Association, and his pal Angel visited with K-2 nd graders today. This was Angel's first visit to Smithfield but her mother had been to our school many times. Angel is a black and white Hereford cow and she weighs 1,400 pounds. She eats 40 pounds of food a day and drinks 10 or more gallons of water a day. Mr. Todd has lots of fun cow facts and he is always a big hit with the children. Angel did a great job too. Everyone had a great time.
Our class is studying about the grasslands. We are growing plants from seeds. Seven little plants have sprouted. Caroline's plant has grown the most so far.
Kathy Horle is better known as The Reading Lady. She reads with our class and helps the class with fluency and comprehension. Kathy began volunteering at Smithfield in1988 when her twin girls were in first grade.
Mrs. Graves' son, Firefighter Simmons, from the Keller Fire Department, visited with all the second graders on Feb. 16th. He picked Aiden to help him with Stop, Drop, Cover, and Roll.
In the eighteen years I have taught in BISD we have never had four snow days in a row. I decided to have a little fun this morning and I got my skis out for a trial run.
Everyone had a great time on Friday, Jan. 21st, which was Fine Arts Day at Smithfield. I tried to get a picture of everyone in our class but I know that I missed a few students. The children visited many different classrooms throughout Fine Arts Day. The children had four sessions of art during the day and after lunch they enjoyed an hour of entertainment. Students from Paschal High School did Spanish Folklorico Dancing for us which the class enjoyed very much. Even some of our teachers got to try out some new dance steps. I hope you enjoy the slideshow.

Open Enrollment
BISD is accepting OPEN ENROLLMENT transfers of residents and non-residents students. Transfers are considered on a case-by case basis and require approval by the superintendent or his/her designee. Criteria for approval includes good grades, discipline, attendance, and passing all sections of the most recent TAKS or other recognized test if TAKS is not available (kindergarten, second grade, private schools, parochial schools or home schools).BISD will accept applications for grade levels kindergarten (K) -12th grade for schools which have been declared “Open” based on campus capacity. The number of openings for transfer students in grades K-5 is limited. Transfer applications will be processed on a first-come basis. Preference is given to children of BISD full-time employees and students that are already in attendance at the requested campus. All other students will continue to be accepted pending eligibility and available space. There will not be a tuition fee for out-of-district students for the 2008-09 school year; however, this waiver will be reviewed in successive years.Completed applications will be reviewed by an administrator in the office of student services and the campus principal to determine final disposition. Parents will be notified electronically of the status of the application. Once the application has been approved by both the campus principal and student services, the parent should make a copy of the approval and call the individual campus to make arrangements for registration. If an application is denied based on campus/program capacity, the office of student services will assist the parent with options in choosing a campus that has available capacity.
