Parent Information/Cirriculum Night

Please plan to attend Parent Information Night/Cirriculum Night on Tuesday, August 31st at 6:00pm in room 201. Second grade expectations and the second grade homework policy will be explained. I will also explain what the Fluency Folder is and talk about our Friday tests. This is a very important meeting and I hope that everyone wil make a special effort to attend.

Registration for all returning students is on August 5th from 7:00am to 7:00pm. You can also register online. Online registration is ONLY for existing students at participating campuses, not someone new to the district. To access online registration: Parents must have a SKYWARD access code. If you need an access code, please visit our Smithfield campus after Aug. 2.

The First Day of School

The first day of school is on Monday, August 23rd. Please be sure that your child has his/her school supplies.
If you are not able to purchase all of them at this time then please send your child with 2 sharpened pencils, a box of crayons, and a pair scissors. I'm looking forward to meeting all of my students and their parents in August!

Sometimes parents are not sure what a Composition Notebook looks like so here are some pictures of sample Composition Notebooks. Second grade students do not use sprial notebooks.

1 bottles Elmer’s liquid (large size, 7.6 ounces) NO SCHOOL GLUE
24 Elmer’s glue sticks
2 pkgs. white art paper, 9" x 12", (50 sheets), heavy grade
6 pocket folders, no brads, (2 yellow, 2 red and 2 blue), solid color only
1 green pocket folder with brads
2 boxes Kleenex, 200 count
1 pair scissors, sharp point
1 roll paper towels
2 boxes plastic freezer Ziploc, gallon size
1 box plastic freezer Ziploc, quart size
1 1" looseleaf binder, 3 ring, zipper type not allowed
4 composition notebooks, wide rule (Mead 09910) (9 ¾" x 7 ½") 100 sheets
4 large pink erasers, not art gum
1 wooden ruler with centimeters and inches, solid color only (sturdy not thin plastic type)
1 student assignment book (purchase in school office for $5.00)
1 container of Clorox wipes (80count),
If a brand name is indicated please purchase that brand name.
Your child’s name is needed on school box, scissors, ruler, composition notebooks, binder, and assignment book and glue bottles. Names are not needed on any other supplies.
A $5.00 PAPER FEE WILL BE COLLECTED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR FOR WRITING PAPER AND CONSTRUCTION PAPER.

ANGELINA DONATES 14 INCHES OF HAIR TO LOCKS OF LOVE


On May 17, 2010 Angelina donated 14 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love Foundation. Congratualtions Angelina for doing such a wonderful thing and for wanting to help other children who need wigs because of illness. The Hair Cabin, next to Smithfield Elementary, gave Angelina her new hairstyle and also donated haircuts for several other students who also donated hair.
